Power Octathlon Technical Rules

The Power Octathlon Technical Classification Framework establishes the technical classification of approved World Strongman standard disciplines according to eight fundamental strength movement categories.

These Technical Rules set out the execution requirements, final-position criteria and invalid-attempt conditions applicable to each approved standard discipline. The classification of a discipline does not change when the discipline is contested individually or incorporated into an approved relay, multi-event or team competition format.

Section 1

General Application

1.1

Scope

Technical Classification Framework

The Power Octathlon Technical Classification Framework establishes the technical classification of approved World Strongman standard disciplines according to eight fundamental strength movement categories.

The classification of a discipline does not change when the discipline is contested individually or incorporated into an approved relay, multi-event or team competition format.

1.2

Competition Parameters

Established by Event Technical Regulations

Unless expressly established in these Rules, the following parameters shall be specified in the applicable Event Technical Regulations:

  • competition load;
  • number of attempts;
  • number of repetitions;
  • time limit;
  • weight progression;
  • implement specification;
  • permitted equipment;
  • competition sequence;
  • result determination and tie-breaking procedure.

All competition equipment shall comply with the applicable World Strongman Technical & Equipment Standards.

1.3

Referee Commands

Official Language: English

Where required by the discipline, the official commands shall be given in English. The applicable commands include:

StartPressUp DownRackFinish

An athlete shall not anticipate a Referee command where the Rules require the athlete to wait for that command.

1.4

Valid Attempts and Repetitions

Judging Principle

A valid attempt or repetition shall satisfy all prescribed starting, movement and final-position requirements.

No Lift

For maximum-weight disciplines, an invalid attempt shall be recorded as NO LIFT.

No Rep

For repetition disciplines, an invalid repetition shall be recorded as NO REP and shall not be included in the athlete's result.
