The International Union of clubs & associations “WORLD STRONGMAN”
The Strength Relay is a groundbreaking discipline in the sport of strongman, designed to challenge athletes on multiple fronts. This individual competition format requires competitors to navigate through 7 traditional strongman disciplines in a sequential manner, testing not only their raw power but also their strategic planning, speed, and endurance. Each stage of the relay emphasizes a unique aspect of strength, ensuring a comprehensive test of athletic ability. The Strength Relay redefines the boundaries of what it means to be a strongman, offering an innovative and thrilling experience for both participants and spectators.
After the judge’s starting signal, the athlete lifts all the equipment in turn. Each stage of the relay is performed for three repetitions: Log Lift, Axle Deadlift, Dumbbell Lift, Stone Flip. The athlete who completes all lifts in the shortest time wins.
Time limit: 180 seconds. = 3 min.
Log Lift – 3 repetitions: The athlete lifts the log from the ground (tires, mats, etc.), securing it overhead (1 sec). Elbows and knees must be straightened, feet in one line, the back must also be in a straight position (without leaning back). Holding the Log on the head, during the push from the chest, and detaching hands from the Log during execution is prohibited. After the judge’s command, the athlete returns the Log to the starting position.
Axle Deadlift – 3 repetitions: The athlete stands in front of the Axle bar, bends down, and grabs the axle. After the judge’s command, the athlete lifts the implement, pulling it upwards until the body is fully straightened. In the final position, the knees must be straight, shoulders pulled back. After securing (1 sec), the judge gives the command “Down”, after which the athlete returns the equipment to the starting position. Use of straps is prohibited, touch and go isn’t allowed.
Dumbbell Lift: – 3 repetitions The athlete lifts the dumbbell with both hands from the ground, sets it on the shoulder, and pushes it overhead with one hand, securing it above the head (1 sec). The elbow (of the working arm) and knees must be straightened, feet in one line, the back must also be in a straight position (without leaning back). Supporting the dumbbell with the other hand while lifting from the shoulder is prohibited. After the judge’s command, the athlete returns the implement to the starting position on the ground or platform.
Stone Flip – 3 repetitions: The athlete stands in the starting position over the stone (Sand Bag), hands above it. On the judge’s command, the athlete must lift and flip the stone over a 110 cm bar (assistants must return the stone to the starting position after each flip by the athlete). The use of special glue is prohibited. The judge must give a command or whistle after each successful attempt.
After the judge’s starting signal, the athlete lifts and carries all the equipment in turn. Each equipment must be carried over a distance of 15-20 meters: Bag Carry, Super Yoke, Farmer’s Walk.
The athlete who completes all stages in the shortest time wins. If the athlete does not finish within the allotted time limit, their actual result (distance covered) is recorded. The athlete is allowed to put down the equipment any number of times within the time limit. For deliberate advancement of equipment along the track, the athlete receives a 5-second penalty for each attempt at advancement.
Time limit: 120 seconds. = 2 min.
Sand Bag: On the judge’s command, the athlete picks up the Bag from the ground or a stand with his hands, wrapping arms around it and carries it forward (Sandbag to shoulder is allowed). The points of contact with the Bag should only be the chest and stomach, movement with contact by other parts of the torso (shoulders, head etc.) is prohibited. The Bag must be carried past the line. Innovative Timing System for Strongman Competitions. The sport of strongman embraces a cutting-edge result recording system that enhances precision and fairness in time-based events. This system begins when the judge presses the start button, simultaneously activating individual timers for each competition lane. As the athlete completes the discipline and crosses the finish line, they press a stop button, halting their timer and accurately recording their result. This innovative solution ensures unparalleled accuracy, reduces human error, and provides an interactive experience for athletes, aligning with the evolving technological standards in competitive sports.
